NanaKyū Guitar

This course is designed for guitarists who have completed a Hachikyū (white belt level) course and want to continue to develop their skills. The curriculum covers the following topics:

• Chords and chord progressions: students will continue to build on the basic open chords and chord progressions learned in the white belt course and will learn more advanced chords such as barre chords and 7th chords and more complex chord progressions.
• Scales and modes: students will continue to build on the basic major and minor scales and modes learned in the white belt course and will learn more advanced scales such as the pentatonic and the blues scale and more complex modes such as the Dorian and Mixolydian.
• Strumming and fingerpicking patterns: students will continue to build on the basic strumming and fingerpicking patterns learned in the white belt course and will learn more advanced patterns and techniques such as tremolo, and hybrid picking.
• Music theory and notation: students will continue to build on the basic music theory and notation learned in the white belt course and will learn more advanced concepts such as chord inversions and extended chords and will learn to read sheet music.
• Tuning and maintenance: students will learn more advanced techniques for tuning the guitar and for maintaining the instrument such as how to adjust the action and intonation and how to set up the guitar for different playing styles.

Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in practical exercises and play-alongs with backing tracks.
